CENTENNIAL OF THE BIRTH OF NURIA PLA (1916-2016)
The Board of Trustees wanted to commemorate the first centenary of the birth of Nuria Pla Monseny (Barcelona, May 5th, 1916) through a series of events to remember the figure of the Founder, promote knowledge of the Foundation and thus contribute to the promotion of the work of Mrs. Nuria and its continuation through the purposes of our Foundation.
The Foundation has sponsored this seminar, called “Marquetry in the Mediterranean Basin, the Islamic influence” with a duration of two days, one at the headquarters of our Foundation, with the study of ten of our pieces made with this technique and another, at next day, at the Barcelona Design Museum in Plaça de les Glories. These conferences are organized under the technical direction of the “ Associació per a l’Estudi del Moble ”

We are participating for the first time in ‘Museums Night 2016’ an annual event organized by many of the great cities of Europe and held in Barcelona this year with the participation of more than eighty museums in the city that can be visited freely and for free from 7pm on May 21st until the morning of the 22nd. In addition, from 8.30pm to 10.30pm in the Gardens of Casa Pla will be live music with the group Mohawk who will liven up the visit. At the same time, there will also be a projection of descriptive videos of the gardens and a food truck service to regain strength!

On November 24th, 2016, on the occasion of the annual Friends of the UAB Festival, and on the occasion of the 1st edition of the Friend of Libraries Award, Nuria Pla was awarded the Friend of the Library of Medicine Award, specifically in recognition for the bibliographic collection of the Ravetllat-Pla laboratory and its handover to the Department of History of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
On December 2nd, 2015, it was delivered by the headquarters of the Foundation the Nuria Pla Scholarship for medical research. This year it’s endowed with € 70,000 for the project that has been the winner in the selection process organized by BRN Foundation through a jury of international experts. The name of the rewarded project is: ‘Observatory IPF.cat: looking for personalizing medicine’, in this case referring to the disease of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Mrs. Nuria, every year, as the Christmas festivities approached placed her beloved nativity scene made up of figures of various origins, some of them several centuries old, in the outbuildings of her residence; well, this year in her memory the Foundation has reconfigured the nativity scene, as she used to do, so that it can be visited by the general public who will surely appreciate its artistic and sentimental value.
Continuing with the aim of conserving the collection of furniture and decorative objects of the founder the rehabilitation work of the old house of Mrs. Nuria Pla and headquarters of the Foundation has continued to be done as planned to be able to offer the public a new exhibition hall the opening of which took place on December 2nd.
