The Institut-Laboratori Ravetllat-Pla exhibition opened to the public on December 15th, 2019, coinciding with the inauguration by Barcelona City Council of the ‘Jardins del Doctor Pla i Armengol’.

The Ravetllat-Pla Institute was one of the first pharmaceutical laboratories in the country. Dedicated to studying tuberculosis and producing drugs against this disease, it developed a successful activity between 1923 and 1980.

The permanent exhibition of around a hundred objects occupies some of the old facilities of this laboratory, specifically on the ground floor of Mas Ravellat-Pla, now the Museum House of the Ramon Pla i Armengol Foundation. At the same time, the iconography, photographs and video that accompany the exhibition allow us to know the history of the Institute and appreciate what its admirable facilities were like and how the scientific, industrial and commercial process took place at that time.

The exhibition offers to the public a sample of the rich scientific, documentary and graphic material that was bequeathed by Dr. Nuria Pla, director of the Institute from 1940, and which has been cataloged and studied at the Autonomous University of Barcelona throughout more than a decade by researchers from the History of Medicine Unit, specifically from the Center for the History of Science or CEHIC. The exhibition has been commissioned by Dr. Carles Acosta Rizo, Associate Professor at the UAB and member of the CEHIC.

On Saturday, February 9th, 2019, we celebrated Science Day at the Guinardó Civic Center with a day full of activities. The aim was to bring science closer to the residents of the neighborhood of all ages, and by extension to the residents of the city.

The exhibition, which will occupy some old facilities of this laboratory on the ground floor of the Casa Museu de la Fundació, will be permanent and will be open to the public in the third quarter of the year. The Pla Armengol Foundation invites all residents to enjoy this day in sync with the motto of the day: science is also culture!

The exhibition will be permanent and its opening to the public is expected to coincide with the inauguration by Barcelona City Council of the Ramon and Nuria Pla Gardens. The exhibition of scientific, technical and industrial material of the Institut Ravetllat Pla will occupy some of the old facilities of this laboratory on the ground floor of the Casa Museu de la Fundació where a successful activity took place between 1923 and 1980.

Restoration and adaptation of the rooms that will permanently house the exhibition are currently being carried out, with the selection and restoration of both: pieces from the documentary and bibliographic archive and the collection of material that will be exhibited as well as the furniture that will support them. We also work on the writing and manufacture of informative material, both multimedia and iconographic.

With this project, the Pla Armengol Foundation reaffirms its responsibility as a cultural institution and museum agent that guarantees the conservation, research, communication and exhibition of cultural assets.
