Activities

Collection of Antiques

Following the last will of Mrs. Nuria Pla the purpose of promotion of her collection of antiques is being undertaken by the Foundation through the rehabilitation and upgrade of the family house, built by her father Dr. Pla at the beginning of the 20th century, so that it can adequately exhibit the collection to the interested public. The works required for the safety of the property have been already made; the general utilities which were very obsolete have been completely replaced. Currently, work is ongoing in conditioning a few rooms to be able to show some part of the collection while the upgrade of the rest of the building continues. So far, (by September 2013) the Foundation has invested approximately one million euro (€1,000,000), approximately one-third of the planned total investment.

Social Activities

Since the beginning and as mandated by Mrs. Nuria, the Foundation has made a high number of contributions to socio-religious entities and institutions as well as to several hospitals, such as Red Cross, Caritas, Médecins sans Frontières, Josep Carreras Foundation, the Cottolengo of Padre Alegre, San Rafael Hospital, Residence San Camilo, Hospital de Sant Pau, Little Sisters of the Poor, Missionaries of Charity, etc., being the total amount of these contributions. (105.000€).

Also, in this context, the Foundation has signed agreements with CARITAS within the scope of its campaign “Entidades con Corazón”, and with the Foundation “Ayuda a la Iglesia Necesitada” with the aim that these contributions, which overall amount to €30,000 per year, serve to alleviate the suffering that in current times affects the most disadvantaged people.

Support Medical-Investigation

In order to achieve this objective, the Foundation has signed an agreement with the BRN Foundation, whose members are top professionals in the field of lung diseases. In this agreement it is specified the creation of a biennial Prize, under the name of Dr. Pla Armengol, and an annual scholarship for a research team in this field. The total allowance foreseen for this year 2013 amounts to € 120,000.

Other Foundational Activities

Besides the activities related to the main objectives of the Foundation work has continued in executing a series of actions to fulfill the last will of the founder in various areas such as remodeling and restoration of the family house that hosts the exhibition. For these activities a total amount of €700.000 have been applied in this period.

Collection of Antiques Nuria Pla

In this period, the first exhibition rooms have been set up with a cost of more than €120.000. The inauguration is foreseen in October 2015, and in it is expected to be open to the public in the subsequent months upon receipt of the official licenses submitted to the authorities.

Social Work and Christian Projects.

The Foundation, as per mandate of its founder, has continued to make contributions to Christian entities to support social activities in Spain and other countries by applying the significant amount of more than €626.000. The beneficiaries have been practically all of Christian congregations that carry out this missionary work.

Support of Medical Research

To serve this purpose, the Foundation has contributed in this period with an amount of €70.000. The grant corresponding to 2015 will be handed out on the occasion of the opening of the first exhibition rooms of the Nuria Pla’s collection.

Other Foundational Activities

Besides the activities related to the main objectives of the Foundation work has continued in executing a series of actions to fulfill the last will of the founder in various areas. For these activities a total amount of €420.000 have been applied in this period.

In this period, two more exhibition rooms have been set up as well as an access hall to the ground floor and the installation of project in the old research laboratory has also been completed with the collaboration of Centre d’Història de la Ciència de la UAB, everything with an approximate cost of 75.000€. .

Social Work and Christian Projects.

The Foundation has continued to make contributions to Christian entities like Caritas and ACN ‘Ayuda a la Iglesia Necesitada ‘, concretely to social projects to help those who are in need for a global amount of 56.000€. The beneficiaries have signed collaborative agreements that the Foundation complies to helps these entities of Social work and Christian character.

Support of Medical Research

To serve this purpose, the Foundation has held on his task of handing grants for particular research projects nominated by Fundació BRN (Barcelona Respiratory Network), that for this period represent the amount of 140.000€.

Other Foundational Activities

Besides, the activities related to the main objectives of the Foundation work has continued in executing a series of actions to fulfill the last will of the founder in various areas. For these activities a total amount of more than €47.000 have been applied in this period.

Collection of Antiques Nuria Pla

In this period, the installation of the museum project in the old research laboratory has been totally completed, specifically the exhibition rooms for the antiques collection. The ‘drain room’ or ‘colt room’ has also been finally remodeled for the exhibition as well as heat and cold chambers and the entire hall with the installation of lavatories, so that the whole floor is open for visitors.

Besides, an important part of the first floor where the main investigation activities took place, has also been completely remodeled as well as the office where the administration tasks were carried out expanding social spaces for exhibitions, trainings, workshops and conferences. All these set ups have been completed with lavatory installation etc. The total amount applied for the period has been €184.000.

Social Work and Christian Projects.

The Foundation has continued to make contributions to Christian entities to support social activities in Spain and other countries: Open schools for children, teenagers and youth all over Barcelona, Help for the Victims of Boko Jaram in Nigeria, Helping sick people in Cuba, for a total amount of €56.000. This has been possible thanks to the collaborative agreements that the Foundations has with this social work and Christian entities.

Support of Medical Research

To serve this purpose, the Foundation has contributed in this period in the field of pneumology founding a research project called Non-Eosinophilic Neutrophilic Asthma, with technical support form Fundació BRN (Barcelona Respiratory Network) with a total amount of €70.000.

Other Foundational Activities

Besides, the activities related to the main objectives of the Foundation work has continued in executing a series of actions to fulfill the last will of the founder in various areas. For these activities a total amount of more than €60.000 have been applied in this period.

 

Collection of Antiques Nuria Pla

In this period we have managed to rehabilitate the second floor of the building and therefore, completely finish the refurbishment of the two floors of the old laboratory, thus achieving the objective of completely refurbishing and rehabilitating the industrial part of the building with a cost of more than 220,000 €, only in this period, so that, for this coming year 2022, the different newly refurbished spaces will be opened to the public and will have different uses: exhibition halls, multipurpose rooms for conferences, training, cultural events, etc….

Social Activities

Social The Foundation has continued to collaborate with Cáritas and ACN in social support projects for the most needy (“Nadie sin hogar” “mil comidas al día refugiados sirios en líbano”, etc….) for a total value of 56,000 €. All of this is based on the collaboration agreements that the Foundation has signed with these social action and Christian entities

Support of Medical Research

To this end, always within the field of pneumology, the Foundation has continued to provide grants for selected research projects (Radiomics in Lung Cancer Screening) with the technical support of the BRN Foundation, amounting to 70,000 € for this period.
